At Ashford Church of England Primary School we believe Physical Education (PE) & Sport plays an important role in changing young people’s lives for the better.
We welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding to improve provision of PE and sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource in developing high quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our young people.
Funding for schools is calculated by the number of primary aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11). All schools with 17 or more primary aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £16,000 plus a premium of £10 per pupil.
‘Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this’ (DfE June 2013).
Primary schools receive specific government funding called the 'PE and Sport Premium' from the Department for Education. The government is providing this funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. The premium is designed to help children get an active start in life, supporting primary schools to improve the quality of their PE, physical activity/literacy, and sport provision so that pupils experience the benefits of regular exercise.
This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
At Ashford CE Primary School, we aim to to inspire all children to become physically confident and promote health and fitness. We aim to do this through:
Schools receive a set payment of £16,000, plus an additional £10 per pupil (in years 1 to 6). Our allocation for this year (2022-23) is expected to be £19,310. Please see Sports Premium 2022-23 document below to find out how we intend to spend the sports premium this year.
